This trailer is missing its original data plate, and has a permanent AZ registration as a home built trailer. However, based on my research it is a Bantam T3-C built around 1947. This trailer was built for the civilian market immediately following WW2. It is similar to the military Jeep trailer (T3, MBT, M100, M416). It has civilian lights (currently fitted with a modern 7 pin style plug), a tailgate, a ball hitch, and has no provision for a hand brake. It retains the military style axle using the same bearings as the flat fender jeeps, meaning Napa has them in stock when you need them- although this one has excellent Timken bearings that appear to be mint condition and have less than 1,000 miles since the last repack.
This trailer is riding on vintage Kelsey Hayes wheels, sandblasted and shot in Massey Ferguson implement paint including a full size matching spare. I have a fourth matching wheel that I didn't bother to refinish. The tires are in very good condition with very little tread wear.
This is a nearly 80 year old trailer. I can't pretend to know what it's been through, but it shows wear and tear from hard use and its been painted multiple times in different colors. I took it last year from Fresno to Twin Lakes (near Bridgeport, CA) on I-5 and deep into windy Sierra mountain roads with no issues. I know the hubs the stay cool and loaded correctly it tracks as it should. It will not win a beauty contest, it will get your gear to where you are headed.
