Have you always wanted to learn martial arts? Do you feel the need to be able to defend yourself effectively? This is the perfect class to try. We teach effective self-defense and we get a good workout, but at the same time we have fun in a non-aggressive atmosphere.
THE ART: Hammerhead Hapkido is a highly effective art consisting of strikes and kicks, throws, pressure point attacks, throws and chokes. It's an eclectic art with roots in Daito-Ryu Jujitsu, with Korean striking techniques added in.
Over the years I have also incorporated aggressive punch defenses and finishes from Southeast Asian martial arts (Silat and Kali).
Mondays at 7 pm to 8:30 pm
Bushidokan Martial Arts, 3185 Willow Avenue, Clovis, CA 93612. NE corner of Willow and Ashlan, in the small shopping center with the pizza & subs place.
$60 per month. The first class is free.
WHAT TO BRING:
We wear a standard white dobok or gi for Hapkido. If you don't have one, no worries, just wear sweats or anything comfortable. For Kali, there is no uniform.
INSTRUCTOR: I'm a black belt instructor in Hammerhead Hapkido and I also have black belts in Shorin-Ryu Karate and Kokodo Jujitsu. I have many years of experience in Silat, and have studied numerous other arts including Shotokan Karate, HwaRangDo, JKD, Aikido and Kali.
MORE INFO: People of all experience levels are welcome, including total beginners. No minimum fitness level is required. The website for this group is http://www.HammerheadMA.com/
Women are welcome and encouraged to join. Newcomers are welcome, regardless of experience, and age is not a bar (this class is open to ages 12 and up).
If you'd like to learn Hapkido, you do not need any prior martial arts experience, or any particular level of physical fitness. In fact Hapkido is good for those who are smaller or weaker because it is a blending art, i.e. an art that uses the attacker's force against him by redirecting it, rather than meeting it head on.
Please email me if you are interested, or feel free to simply show up at the training hall on any Monday, Friday or Saturday.
